During 6 intensive and inspiring days you will gain practical and theoretical knowledge in how to build a smaller timber frame house according to the Square rule method – from first measurements to finished structure.

This course provides a practical and theoretical introduction to traditional timber framing. Over six intensive days, you will take part in building and erecting a smaller timber frame house using the Square Rule method, from initial measurements to the finished structure, in an inspiring setting in Gränsfors, and full board and materials are included.

Payment for the course is made in SEK.

What will you learn?

  • Fundamentals of timber framing construction

  • The Square Rule method, from layout to erection

  • How to work with solid wood using traditional techniques

  • Joining and erecting timber frame structures

  • Practical use of traditional carving tools

During the course, participants jointly build a timber frame house of approximately 3 × 5 metres, with the goal of completing the erection during the course.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for both beginners and participants with some prior experience, depending on the course level.

  • No prior experience required

  • Open to anyone interested in traditional timber building

  • Minimum age: 16 years

  • Instruction in Swedish, English and German (depending on participants)

Course Schedule

The course runs over six days and combines practical work sessions with regular breaks and shared meals. The programme also includes a guided tour of the forge and axe production, as well as time for review and reflection at the end of the course.
