During this 2-day course, an exeperienced blacksmith from Gränsfors Bruk guides you through the steps to turn steel into a finished axe.

This course offers a unique opportunity to experience traditional axe forging and to follow the complete process behind a hand-forged axe. Guided by an experienced blacksmith, you will work hands-on in the forge and gain insight into the craftsmanship behind Gränsfors Bruk axes, from glowing steel to a finished tool.

What will you learn?

  • Basic forging techniques and safety in the forge

  • How to light and work at the forge

  • Tools and materials used in blacksmithing and axe making

  • The main stages of axe forging: forging the axe head, heat treatment and grinding

  • How to fit the handle and complete the axe

During the course, you will forge a smaller hatchet, similar to the Gränsfors Outdoor Axe, which you can take home. The axe is stamped with your initials and delivered with a sheath.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for both beginners and participants with some prior experience, depending on the course level.

  • No previous experience is required.

  • Minimum age is 16.

  • Instruction is given in Swedish and English.

Course Schedule

The course runs over two full days with a balanced mix of practical forging sessions, breaks and shared meals. The programme also includes a guided tour of the forge and axe production, as well as time for review and reflection at the end of the course.
