Double Bit Axes
Gränsfors Double Bit Axes are rooted in North American forestry tradition and were widely used from the mid-19th century until the chainsaw became dominant in the mid-20th century. They were especially popular among forest workers in Canada and the USA, where the double-edged design made them highly practical in daily work.
The advantage of the Double Bit Axe is that each edge can be ground differently, allowing one edge to be kept finer for felling and the other slightly blunter for limbing. This made it possible for forest workers to carry a single, versatile axe, and the model eventually became a symbol of professional forestry in North America.
Today, Double Bit Axes are rarely used in forest work and are instead mainly associated with the leisure activity of axe throwing, a sport with organised competitions in Sweden and the Nordic countries.
