The Gränsfors Medium Carving Axe is a versatile carving axe that balances power and precision, with a size and weight suitable for both new and experienced woodworkers.
The handle is made from hickory and is slightly thicker than the walnut handle used in the limited edition version, an adjustment made based on customer feedback.
Perfect for those who:
* Want a balanced carving axe combining power and precision
* Prefer a size and weight suitable for both beginners and experienced carvers
* Want an edge grind adapted to their carving style

The design is based on the Large Carving Axe, developed in collaboration with master craftsmen Wille Sundqvist and Onni Linnanheimo, inspired by traditional carving axes, but scaled to about 90% of the original size.
The Medium Carving Axe has a relatively long, curved cutting edge and comes as standard with a double-sided sharpened edge. The axe can also be specially ordered with a “carving grind” for right-handed or left-handed carving, with the edge ground on the left side or right side.
Right-handed users often choose the Medium Carving Axe, Left Side Ground, and left-handed users often choose the Medium Carving Axe, Right Side Ground, as the longer, slightly concave bevel face then comes closest to the wood, providing excellent support when carving.
The Medium Carving Axe, Left Side Ground, has a short bevel face on the right side of the edge when the axe is held in the right hand with the handle down, head up, and the edge facing away from you. The left side of the edge has a longer, slightly concave bevel face that supports the axe’s contact with the wood during carving.

The axe is delivered with a sheath.
