The Gränsfors Large Splitting Axe is designed to split all types of firewood. Its head is forged and ground to a concave profile with a relatively thin bit. The axe cuts quickly and easily into the wood, allowing the broader section of the head to force it apart efficiently without getting stuck. It's easy to see why the axe has become such a favorite.
The Large Splitting Axe is hand-forged in Sweden from high-quality recycled Swedish carbon steel. The axe comes with a sheath made from Swedish vegetable-tanned leather from Tärnsjö Garveri.

The Gränsfors Large Splitting Axe is designed to split wood along the grain. This puts great strain on the handle near the axe head, which is why the axe is fitted with a protective steel collar.
The durable hickory handle provides excellent shock absorption and features circular grooves at the end for a secure and comfortable grip. The longer handle delivers greater striking power and improved leverage compared to shorter models. Whether you choose a straight or curved handle depends on your technique, ergonomic needs, and personal preference.
The Large Splitting Axe should not be used to strike a splitting wedge or as a wedge itself. For those tasks, we recommend the Gränsfors Splitting Maul, which is specifically designed for that purpose.
