Treat the axe handle with linseed oil stain

Gränsfors Bruk historical axes have a hickory handle that is treated with linseed oil stain. If your handle gets scratched or needs reshaping, and you want to maintain the same appearance as before, you can treat it with a linseed oil stain.

All loose handles for our historical axes are delivered completely untreated. We recommend that handles should be treated with either oil or linseed oil stain.

RECIPE FOR LINSEED OIL STAIN

  • 1/3 boiled linseed oil
  • 1/3 balsam turpentine
  • 1/3 burnt umber linseed oil paint from Ottosson Färgmakeri

Mix and apply generously to the handle. Wipe with a cloth after about 15–20 minutes.

You can choose how dark or light you want the handle to be by using more or less of the stain.

WARNING: RISK OF SELF-IGNITION!

Cloths and porous materials moistened by linseed oil must be burned, dried in an open place with no risk of fire or stored while soaked in water before being discarded.
