Post-and-beam construction, or building a timber-framed house, is an alternative to traditional log building for constructing both small and large houses. At a Timber Framing Course at Gränsfors Bruk, participants learn the complete process of timber framing from raw logs to a finished structure.
Using traditional methods, broad axes, and tools from Gränsfors Bruk, participants are taught the fundamentals of timber framing construction as well as techniques for joinery and raising the structure.
Whether you are a beginner or already have some experience in timber construction, the course offers a unique insight into traditional craftsmanship in an inspiring environment in Gränsfors. The course is held outdoors under cover and is led by an experienced timber craftsman.
All our courses include full board, with meals at Restaurant Augusta in Gränsfors, as well as accommodation at course lodgings in Gränsfors. A wood-fired sauna is available to course
participants by the river at the timber yard.
Materials, including Swedish pine, are included, as well as course literature, a book on timber framing and a completed design sketch. All our courses also include a guided tour of the Gränsfors Bruk forge and axe production. Course participants receive a 20% discount in the Gränsfors Bruk factory shop on the regular product range during the course.
Instruction is provided in Swedish, English, and German, depending on the participants. The course takes place outdoors under cover in Gränsfors. Maximum 10–12 participants, depending on group composition. Minimum number for the course to run: 8 participants. The minimum age is generally 16 years.
